aromatherapie

A massage or bath isn’t only very relaxing. By using the right essential oils, it can also relieve menstrual cramps and pain. At least according to aromatherapists. Like to give it a try? The Dutch website aromalifestyle.nl gives you tips, recipes and background information.

1. Massage oil against period pain

Blend 10 ml jojoba oil with 3 drops of clary sage essential oil, 5 drops of cypress essential oil and 2 drops of orange essential oil.

Massage the oil blend onto your tummy.

2. Anti-PMS massage oil

Use on the days before your menstruation.

Ingredients:
40 ml jojoba oil
10 gr coconut oil
7 drops of grapefruit essential oil
3 drops of geranium essential oil
3 drops of vanilla essential oil extract
2 drops of clary sage essential oil

Instructions:

Melt the coconut oil and add the jojoba oil. Afterwards, add all the essential oils. Shake gently until combined and transfer to a clean bottle. Massage yourself (or even better: get someone else to massage you) with the oil blend, relax and enjoy the lovely smell. This oil blend will keep for at least three months when stored in a cool and dark place.

3. Relaxing bath oil

To ease cramps when your period has started.

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of fluid honey
5 drops of vanilla essential oil (extract)
1 drop of clary sage essential oil
1 drop of geranium essential oil (either rose or bourbon geranium).

Instructions:
Blend everything thoroughly. Add to the warm bath water and stir. Take a bath and relax for at least 15 minutes.

Geranium is considered a female oil and can therefore be used to treat PMS and menopausal complaints. This oil helps stabilising hormonal balance.
Clary sage essential oil eases cramps and contains the hormone-regulating sclareol.
Cypress essential oil eases cramps and also lifts your mood.
Orange, grapefruit and other essential citrus oils lift the mood and ease cramps.
Vanilla lifts the mood and works as an antidepressant.
